Amy Chamberlain
Hello, I'm Amy Chamberlain and my favorite part of teaching is helping kids gain confidence in themselves so they can succeed.
How? By making learning and developing necessary skills FUN and ENGAGING rather than frustrating and a fight with students.
My secret recipe for success is using topics that my students are already passionate about to get them invested in working on areas that need improvement. Whether it be in their writing, organizational skills, reading, public speaking, or critical thinking, when the exercises are centered around something they care about, they are willing to dive in and the path to improvement has already begun. Why shouldn't learning be fun?
Professional Background: I graduated from USF with an MEd in 2021. I have extensive experience as an educator and private instructor in both primary and secondary education. I also hold a graduate degree in education administration. My other specialties are writing, reading, and language arts.

Kacey Hillebrand
Kacey is a long-time writer. From books and plays in elementary school to papers and essays in college, she is forever eager to get down all those ideas in her head. While tutoring in her high school's Writing Center, Kacey fell in love with helping other students get down their ideas, too. It was always fun for her to see how her peers approached their writing, usually in a way different from her own!
Kacey studies psychology and anthropology at William & Mary. While on campus, she volunteers at local elementary schools helping students learn math and reading. Kacey likes helping all kinds of students with their learning so much that for her educational psychology class, she authored an op-ed about the importance of secondary school Writing Centers.
When Kacey wants to relax, she escapes into music! Kacey has been playing the trombone for over 10 years and loves playing in ensembles with her friends. In fact, playing trombone and writing are actually pretty similar- both give your arm a good workout! -
Laramie LJ Banks
I am a credentialed educator full of curiosity, joy, love, and wisdom. I use my talent as an educator to share my happiness with the world, which manifests when my students enjoy learning. I love enlightening students because, in my 15 years of teaching, I've learned patience, caring, and forgiveness to create a safe environment for learning. Finally, wisdom is one of my oldest mentors. I enjoy playing chess, one of the oldest games in the world, because I spend a lot of time inferring my next set of moves. I enjoy teaching my students how to infer knowledge because it's fun making decisions. -

Piper Walker
Hello and welcome! My name is Piper and this is my fifth year working with Adventures in Writing. I've had the pleasure of working many roles in my time with AIW including: middle school writing ranger, site admin of in-person and online camps, and middle school curriculum co-writer. During the school year I am a 7th grade math and science teacher. I enjoy my time as a reading and writing tutor with AIW because it gives me the freedom to dabble in my favorite subjects.
I absolutely love to teach. Some of my favorite teaching moments happen when struggling students start to build their confidence and really believe in themselves and their infinite possibilities. I firmly believe that every student can learn to love learning if given the right supports and encouragement.
In my free time I enjoy: reading any and all books I can get my hands on, challenging friends and family to games of Bananagrams, and tinkering on my piano.
I can't wait to meet your student and look forward to helping them fall in love with writing, soon!
